INAPRUBAHAN sa Senado sa botong 21-0, sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ng batas ang pagtatag ng Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS).

Ayon sa Senate Bill (SB) 1086, o Philippine High School for Sports Act of 2019, magbibigay ng pagkakataon sa mga student-athletes na makapag-aral sa isang sports high school kung saan sila pagkakalooban ng full o partial scholarships ng pamahalaan.

Kung papasa bilang batas, isang specialized curriculum ang idi-develop ng Department of Education (DepEd) kasabay ng pag-develop ng kanilang athletic skills.

“The end view of this legislation is to unleash the potential of young Filipinos who have shown early potential of excelling in sports for a sports-related career,” pahayag ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman ng Senate Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture at siyang nag- sponsor ng bill.

Aniya, ang Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS) ay gagawing isang world-class educational at athletics facility na may international standards sa ilalim ng pamamahala ng DepEd.

Ang Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) sa New Clark City sa Capas, Tarlac ang mamamahala sa konstruksiyon ng mga silid-aralan, dormitoryo at iba pang mga sports facilities at amenities.

Ayon kay Senador Christopher “Bong” Go, chairman ng Senate Committee on Sports, mabibigyan ng nasabing batas ng pagkakataon ang isang mag-aaral na makatapos ng high school habang nag-i-excel sa kanyang career sa sports.

“With the (establishment) of the PHSS in very close proximity to world-class facilities, our student-athletes can enjoy a level of training which is at par with the best in the world,” pahayag ni Go.

“This type of training and education can catapult our student-athletes to illustrious careers in sports, whether as athletes, coaches, managers, or any other sports-related profession,” aniya.
