Pinagtibay ng Kamara ang panukalang batas na baguhin ang ranggo o rank classification ng mga unipormadong tauhan ng Philippine National Police (PNP) at igaya sa militar.
Aamyendahan ang Section 28 ng Republic Act No. 6975, o ang “Department of Interior and Local Government Act of 1990”.
Sa ilalim nito, ang Director General ay Police General; Deputy Director General ay Police Lieutenant General; Director ay Police Major General; Chief Superintendent ay Police Brigadier General; Senior Superintendent ay Police Colonel; Superintendent ay Police Lieutenant Colonel; Chief Inspector ay Police Major; Senior Inspector ay Police Captain; Inspector ay Police Lieutenant; Senior Police Officer IV ay Police Master Sergeant; Senior Police Officer III ay Police Technical Sergeant; Senior Police Officer II ay Police Staff Sergeant; Senior Police Officer I ay Police Sergeant; Police Officer III ay Police Corporal; Police Officer II ay Patrolman First Class; Police Officer ay Patrolman.
Ayon kay Rep. Romeo Acop (2nd District, Antipolo City), may-akda ng panukala at chairman ng House Committee on Public Order and Safety, nilalayon nitong maiwasan ang pagkalito ng publiko sa kasalukuyang ranggo ng PNP officers, tulad ng paggamit ng mga terminong “superintendent” at “inspector”, na ginaya lang mula sa Western at European jurisdictions.
