Nagpahayag ng suporta kahapon si Sen. Risa Hontiveros sa giyera ng administrasyong Duterte laban sa paglaganap ng droga, “but it must do it legally and not at the expense of human rights.’’
Naglabas si Hontiveros ng pahayag bilang pagsang-ayon sa obserbasyon ni Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson, chairman ng Senate public order and dangerous drugs committee, at ng iba’t ibang sektor, tulad ng Filipino-Chinese and Korean communities, na ang “Oplan Tokhang’’ ng pulisya laban sa droga ay ginagamit ng mga tiwaling pulis sa pambibiktima ng mamamayan.
Sinabi nina Hontiveros at Lacson na ang pagdukot at pagpapatubos sa negosyanteng Korean na si Jee Ick Joo, 53, sa Pampanga noong Oktubre 18, 2016 ay hindi isolated incident.
Sinabi ni Hontiveros na ang marahas na retorika ng gobyerno ay pinakikinabangan nang husto ng mga tiwaling pulis.

“It also created a new layer of bad eggs in the PNP that uses the human rights-deficient war on drugs to commit heinous crimes,” sabi niya.
Sinabi ng lady senator na ang “Tokhang-for-ransom’’ ay direktang resulta ng anti-drug campaign na hindi kumikilala sa karapatang pantao at sa rule of law, at humihimok ng extrajudicial killings.
“It opened a Pandora’s box of pure evil,’’ banggit pa niya.
“I also reiterate my appeal to PNP Chief Dela Rosa to seriously consider rethinking the current framework of the war on drugs.”
MANANAGOT
Tiniyak naman ng Malacañang na parurusahan ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga tiwaling pulis.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella na bagamat ipinapangako ng Presidente ang proteksiyon sa mga pulis na tumutupad sa tungkulin, hindi naman nito kukunsintihin ang mga abusado at corrupt na pulis.
“The proceedings are running on parallel tracks—one is to address apparent existence of rouge cops; on the other hand, as the President has said, he continues to protect their efforts assuming regularity,” sinabi ni Abella a news conference sa Palasyo. “But it’s running on parallel tracks and the President has said he will deal quite severely with those who are erring.”
Kasabay ng paghingi ng paumanhin sa South Korea, nangako si Pangulong Duterte ang mahaharap sa “maximum punishment” ang mga salarin.
‘WE ARE AFRAID’
Bagamat takot, tiwala naman ang Korean community sa justice system ng Pilipinas.
Sinabi ni Charlie Shin, executive vice president ng United Korean Community Association in the Philippines (UKCA), na bagamat naniniwala siya na parurusahan ng administrasyong Duterte ang mga responsable sa kamatayan ni Jee, nangangamba pa rin sila sa kaligtasan ng iba pang mga Korean sa bansa.
