Nagpahayag ng pagkabahala ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa mga ulat na nagre-recruit ng panibagong mga miyembro ang New People’s Army (NPA) sa Negros Island Province sa kabila ng pagpapatuloy ng usapang pangkapayapaan ng gobyerno at ng Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front (CPP-NDF)-NPA.

Sinabi ni Marine Col. Edgard A. Arevalo, hepe ng Public Affairs Office (PAO) ng AFP, na nakararating sa kanila ang napaulat na recruitment ng CPP-NPA sa lalawigan, batay sa report ng kanilang mga field commander sa lugar.

Nauna rito, sinabi ni Philippine Army 303rd Brigade Commander Col. Francisco Delfin na aktibo umanong nagre-recruit ng mga bagong kasapi ang NPA sa mga liblib na barangay sa Negros Island Province, sa kabila ng negosasyong pangkapayapaan sa Netherlands.

Ayon kay Arevalo, dahil sa umiiral na Suspension of Military Operations (SOMO) sa pagitan ng militar at mga rebelde ay hindi nila magawang aksiyunan ang usapin.

“Ang military operations ay malinaw na ipinagbabawal under the Suspension of Military Operations na iniutos ng ating chief of staff (Gen. Ricardo Visaya), so kung meron ganitong nangyayaring recruitment as I was saying earlier, what we’re going to do is to take note of this, record it and bring it up in the proper forum,” ani Arevalo.

“When the time comes so that we will be able to determine what are the actions that we’re suppose to take, kung sabihin in the future that will be considered a violation of the ceasefire agreement then we might able, we might also be given the mechanism or the redress, or the course of action na puwede nating gawin to stop recruitment if it is, if in the future it will be defined as one of the violations ng ceasefire,” paliwanag niya.

Sinabi rin ni Arevalo na tatalakayin din ng liderato ng AFP ang tungkol sa usapin. (FRANCIS T. WAKEFIELD)
