Sinabi ni dating Senador Leila de Lima nitong Biyernes, Hulyo 1, na dapat ibalik ng bagong administrasyon ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang pagiging miyembro ng Pilipinas sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Matatandaang nagpasya si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na wakasan ang pagiging miyembro ng bansa ICC noong Marso 2018.

Nanindigan si De Lima, isang kilalang social justice and human rights champion dito sa at ibang bansa, na ang pagiging miyembro ng bansa sa ICC ay magpapalakas ng depensa nito laban sa mga pang-aabuso sa karapatang pantao at impunity, at magdadala ng positibong epekto sa imahe ng bansa.

“Apart from cooperating with the ICC’s probe into the Philippines’ situation relative to the Duterte regime’s drug war killings, one concrete way to honor the ICC as it marks its 20th anniversary is for the new government to restore its ICC membership,” ani De Lima.

“Restoring the country’s membership in the ICC will not only bring positive impact to the country’s image, but it will also strengthen our defense against possible future acts of aggression by foreign countries and protect people from crimes against humanity committed by state forces,” dagdag pa niya.

Ayon pa sa dating senador na ang ICC ay maaaring gumamit ng hurisdiksyon kung ang mga Estado ay hindi kaya o ayaw mag-imbestiga ng mga krimen.
