Hindi tipikal na Superman ang itinatampok ngayon ng DC Universe dahil si Jonathan Kent, anak nina Clark Kent na former Superman at Lois Lane, ay isang bisexual.
Natuwa naman ang mga miyembro ng LGBTQIA+ community dahil nagkaroon sila ng representasyon sa katauhan ng isang superhero, na kinagisnang 'straight'.
Ayon sa DC Comics, isang romantic relationship ang mabubuo sa bagong Superman at reporter na si Jay Nakamura, sa bagong ilalabas na isyu ng “Superman: Son of Kal-El #5” sa Nobyembre.
"Just like his father before him, Jon Kent has fallen for a reporter. Learn more about the story to come in SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #5," ayon sa kanilang tweet.

Sa pasilip na ilustrasyon, makikita ang larawan ni Superman at ang naturang reporter na may kulay-pink na buhok at makapal na salamin.
Ayon sa pahayag ng manunulat nito na si Tom Taylor, sa panahon ngayon ay kailangang magkaroon ng representasyon ang simuman, anuman ang kaniyang lipi o kasariang kinabibilangan. Nagpasalamat siya sa Warner Bros. dahil sa ideyang ito.
“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea."
Si Superman daw ay hindi lamang basta simbolo ng pagiging lalaki, kundi ng pag-asa, katotohanan, at hustisya.
“Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
Lumabas ang anunsyo nito sa US noong Oktubre 12, kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng 'National Coming Out Day'.
