NAGPAHAYAG ng kahandaan ang United Polo Players Association (UPPA) matapos maisama ng Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC), sa pangunguna ni chairman Peter Cayatano, bilang ika-56 event sa gaganaping 30th Southeast Asian Games sa Nobyembre 30 hanggang Disyembre 11 sa Manila at satellite venue sa Subic, Batangas, at Clark.

MASAYANG nagpakuha ng ‘groupie’ ang mga opisyal ng Federation International Polo, sa pangunguna ni Zone D President Peter Predevilla (ikaanim mula sa kanan), kasama sina UPPA Chairman Emeritus Rep. Mikee Romero (kalaiwa) at POC President Ricky Vargas matapos ang pagpupulong para opisyal na maisama ang Polo bilang ika-56 event ng 30th Southeast Asian Games na gaganapin sa Manila sa Nobyembre. Mula sa pakikipagtulungan ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), sa pamumuno ni president Ricky Vargas at chairman Rep. Bambol Tolentino, naisama ang Polo sa calendar of event ng biennial meet at may nakatayang tatlong gintong medalya.

“It was a huge relief for all of us after PHISGOC gave us the green light to stage our sport,” pahayag ni UPPA Chairman Emeritus Rep. Mikee Romero (1Pacman Partylist). “All our efforts did not go down the drain and we thank Mr.Vargas and Rep. Tolentino for their all-out support.”

Hindi rin naitagao ni Federation International Polo Zone D President Peter Predevilla ang kasiyahan sa pagkilalang ibinigay ng SEAG Federation sa Polo para sa prestihiyosong multi-sports event sa rehiyon.

“I look forward to working with you and make this the outcome a success. FIP places a high priority on the SEA Games outcomes and for all the countries that participate and especially in ensuring the reputation of the host country,” pahayag ni Predevilla.

Kinalugdan din ni Predevilla ang paghahandang isinagawa sa Miguel Romero Field sa Calatagan, Batangas para masiguro na world-class ang venue para sa torneo. Ang venue ay isinunod sa pangalan ng anak ni Romero.

Iginiit naman ni Romero, gayundin ni UPPA president Coco Garcia at secretary-general Jun Juban, na rerepasuhin ng asosasyon ang ilan pang kakulangan sa venue na anila magsisilbing premyadong polo ground sa rehiyon.

“With the support of PHISGOC and POC we’ll do everything to make our event a big success,” sambit ni Garcia.

Kabilang din sa mga opisyal ng UPPA sina Tonio Veloso, executive-general; at Jun Eusebio, vice chairman.

Ayon kay Romero, gagawin ng National Polo Team ang lahat upang makapag-ambag sa adhijain ng delegasyon na makamit ang overall championship, gayung ang unang gintong nakataya sa biennial meet ay magmumula sa Polo event – ang 0 Goals Mix.

Nakatakda itong ganapin sa Nov. 10-17 (elimination) at ang championship match ay sa Nov. 29 – isang araw bago ang opisyal na pagbubukas ng SEAG.

“Hopefully we can produce the first gold and set things in motion for Team Philippines,” pahayag ni Romero.

Ang dalawa pang event ay ang 5-8 Goals (Nov. 20-26) at 2-4 Goals (Dec. 2-9).
