Upang bigyang-diin ang panawagan nila para sa umento, inilunsad kahapon ng grupo ng mga guro ang national signature campaign para igiit ang pagtataas ng suweldo ng mga guro sa mga pampublikong paaralan sa bansa.

Inilunsad kahapon ng Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) ang “National Signature Campaign for Teachers’ Salary Increase” sa Teachers’ Camp sa Baguio City. Isinabay ito sa National Seminar on the Role of Teacher-Leaders in the DepEd Legal Process sa siyudad.

Ayon kay TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas, inaasahang makalilikom ang grupo ng 500,000 lagda mula sa mga guro sa mga pampublikong eskuwelahan at mga kawani ng Department of Education (DepEd) sa bansa, at iprisinta ang mga nakalap na lagda kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte bago ang ikatlong State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) nito sa susunod na buwan.

“Come June 4, our teachers will once again be at the frontline of another battle, the continuing fight against illiteracy,” sabi ni Basas, isang guro sa Caloocan City. “However, we have to be equipped and armed with the necessary weapons – just compensation and provision of the mandated benefits under the existing laws.”

Pinaalalahanan din ng TDC si Pangulong Duterte sa ipinangako nitong tataasan ang suweldo ng mga guro, simula noong nangangampanya pa ito.

“We recognize that pronouncement from the president, however, we do not know yet how it will be given and how much the amount would be,” ani Basas. “We patiently waited for this promise since he took the presidency two years ago, while obviously, our brothers and sisters in the uniformed service were given priority.”

Magbabalik-eskuwela bukas, Hunyo 4, ang mahigit 20 milyong estudyante sa bansa.
