Nakatakdang malaman ang kahahantungan ng martial law sa Mindanao sa pagsisiwalat ng Palasyo na isusumites ni Pangulong Duterte ang kanyang desisyon sa Kongreso bago mag-Christmas break ang lehislatura sa Disyembre 15.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, ito ay dahil nagbigay na ng pahayag ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) kung ititigil o palalawigin ang batas militar sa Mindanao.
Ayon kay Roque, sa isang press briefing sa Zamboanga City nitong Sabado, mayroon na siyang kopya ng pahayag ng AFP na kanyang babasahin sa regular Palace press briefing sa Lunes.

“I didn’t want to say it now because mape-preempt ‘yung aking press briefing sa Lunes,” sabi ni Roque.
“I’m going to read verbatim already what was given to me by the AFP. Mayroon na pong binigay sa aking statement, Monday ko na po babasahin ‘yan,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Roque, isusumite ng Pangulo ang kanyang desisyon sa Kongreso sa susunod na dalawang linggo.
“The President will make a decision, if not next week, then the week after because [the] Congress will go on recess on the 15th. As you know, we cannot have [an] extension [of] martial law without [the] consent of Congress,” ayon sa Palace official.
Sinabi ni Roque na habang wala pang pinal na desisyon sa martial law, siniguro niya na tinitiyak ng Pangulo ang kaligtasan ng mga mamamayan sa Marawi City at sa mga kalapit bayan.
Kaugnay nito, limang miyembro ng Senate bloc ang tumutol kahapon na palawigin ang martial law sa Mindanao.
“We propose that the martial law in Mindanao be lifted as soon as possible so that we can all focus on the rehabilitation of the devastated lives and livelihoods of the people of Marawi City and nearby areas,’’ ayon sa minority bloc members.
Ang mga miyembro sa opposition group sa Mataas na Kapulungan ay sina Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon at Senators Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Pangilinan at Antonio F. Trillanes IV.
“Instead of focusing on extending martial law, the government should train its sights on the quick rehabilitation of Marawi City so our Maranao brothers and sisters can resume their normal lives at the soonest possible time,’’ diin nila.
