Dahil sa naging pahayag ni Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairman Jose Maria Sison, naging kaduda-duda ang engkuwentro sa Nasugbu, Batangas nitong Martes ng gabi, na ikinamatay ng 15 New People’s Army (NPA), ayon sa isang opisyal ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Brig. General Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos, Jr., ang commander ng 202nd Infantry Brigade na namamahala sa mga operasyon sa Batangas, na ang pahayag ni Sison ay pawang kasinungalingan upang ipahiya ang puwersa ng pamahalaan.
“The encounter resulted to 14 dead NPA terrorists and one wounded NPA terrorist,” sabi ni Burgos. “Joma Sison’s statement is a mere NPA propaganda against the government forces which are pure and simple lies with the sole intention of salvaging their eroding mass base support and projecting relevance in the region.”
Sa kanyang panayam sa ABS-CBN News Channel o ANC nitong Miyerkules, sinabi ni Sison na hindi dapat pagkatiwalaan ng mga tao ang “claims of false news of the psyway officers of Duterte’s army, the same you cannot trust the false news of his troll army.”

Sinabi rin ni Sison na dapat ding imbestigahan ng human rights organizations ang insidente.
EO VS NPA
Kaugnay nito, inihayag ni Pangulong Duterte na inihahanda na ang Executive Order (EO) na magdedeklara sa NPA bilang teroristang grupo.
‘I am preparing now… they are preparing the executive order declaring them to be terrorists and they will be afforded the treatment of being criminals,” sabi ni Duterte sa kanyang talumpati sa Saul, Pangasinan nitong Miyerkules.
