Tiniyak ni Senador Alan Peter Cayetano kahapon na inihahanda na ang Philippine Human Rights Action Plan para sa susunod na limang taon.
Ito ang ipinahayag ni Cayetano, pinuno ng Philippine delegation sa Universal Periodic Review ng United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) matapos mabigong depensahan ang war on drugs ng administrasyong Duterte at makumbinse ang mayorya ng mga kasaping estado ng konseho.
Sinabi ng hepe ng Senate committee on foreign relations na ang plano ay nakaangkla sa pangako ng administrasyon na depensahan ang rule of law at protektahan ang karapatang pantao ng mga Pilipino.
Sinabi ng senador na pagtitibayin sa five-year human rights plan ang “a culture-sensitive perspective, gender-sensitive paradigm, and human rights-based approach in public service.”

“The plan seeks to mainstream the government’s human rights agenda in its development initiatives to protect all, especially the most vulnerable sectors, including but not limited to, the indigenous people, children, women, migrant workers, the elderly, domestic workers, persons with disabilities, farmers, laborers, and members of the LGBT community,” saad ni Cayetano.
Nauna rito, hinimok ng 45 sa 47 bansa ang Pilipinas na magsagawa ng nararapat na hakbang para matigil ang extrajudicial killings (EJKs) sa bansa na naging talamak sa kampanya kontra ilegal na droga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Nanawagan din ang mga delegado ng UN sa administrasyong Duterte na imbitahan pabalik si UN Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard para imbestigahan ang EJKs sa Pilipinas. Kamakailan ay binatikos ng Malacañang ang hindi inaasahang pagbisita ni Callamard sa bansa.
Ipinunto ni Cayetano na ang nirepasong Human Rights Plan ng Pilipinas ay binuo noon pang 2012, sa panahon ni Aquino at marami na ang nagbago.
