“Who is he to tell us what to do? Hindi lang siya ang halal na senador. Hindi kami ang nasa likod ng impeachment complaint pero hindi rin kami mga tutang sunud-sunuran.”
Ito ang mariing pahayag ni Senator Francis Pangilinan kaugnay ng sinabi ni Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III na dapat na kondenahin ng Liberal Party (LP) ang impeachment complaint laban kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na inihain ni Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano.
Si Pangilinan ang presidente ng LP habang si Pimentel naman ang pangulo ng Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP)-Laban na kinaaniban ni Pangulong Duterte.
Una nang sinabi ni Pangilinan na dapat na ituon na lang ni Pimentel ang kanyang oras sa paggawa ng mga batas sa halip na tutukan ang pinaplanong impeachment complaint laban kay Vice President Leni Robredo ng LP.

“Koko et al stripped us of our committee chairmanships for not toeing the admin line on extrajudicial killings, the Marcos burial, the Lascañas and BI (Bureau of Immigration) hearings and then he expects us to denounce the impeachment proceedings to prove to him we aren’t behind the filing of the complaint?” saad sa text message ni Pangilinan.
Una nang sinabi ni Pimentel na kung totoong walang alam ang LP sa paghahain ni Alejano ng impeachment laban sa Pangulo ay dapat na kinondena ito ng partido.
LP NAKASUPORTA KAY ROBREDO
Kasabay nito, tiniyak naman ni House Deputy Speaker Miro Quimbo ng LP ang buong suporta ng partido para kay Robredo sa harap ng posibilidad ng impeachment shortcut laban dito sa Kamara.
Sinabi ni Quimbo, pinuno ng 27-miyembrong LP contingent sa Kamara, na susuportahan nila ang Bise Presidente, ang chairperson ng partido, sakaling isulong ni Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez ang pagpapatalsik ntio sa puwesto sa pamamagitan ng impeachment.
“I need to stress that the Vice President is the chairperson of our party. We will always be by her side,” ani Quimbo.
“I think filing of an impeachment complaint against the vice president will prove to be a very difficult situationfor the Liberal Party. That is why I don’t think it will even happen unless there is no more importance that is given to the (supermajority) coalition that has borught about all the reforms that we have passed,” dagdag ni Quimbo.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Quimbo: “Congress should not allow itself to be used by these ‘recidivist impeachers’ who trivialize this deeply sacred accountability measure enshrined in our constitution. We must not allow Congress and its members to be dragged into their petty political charades.”
Tinutukoy niya ang impeachment complaint na inihain ng dating abogado ng pamilya Marcos na si Oliver Lozano, na iginigiit ng pag-endorso ni Alvarez. (LEONEL M. ABASOLA at BEN R. ROSARIO)
