UNITED NATIONS (AP) – Nakikipagtulungan ang United Nations Children’s Fund sa mahigit 200 kilalang manunulat sa buong mundo upang gunitain ang Universal Children’s Day.
Sinabi ni U.N. spokesman Farhan Haq nitong Lunes na ang novelists, playwrights at poets ay nag-ambag ng maliliit na istorya na may pitong linya para sa kampanya bago ang 70th anniversary ng UNICEF sa Disyembre 11.
Kabilang sina Chimamanda Adichie ng Nigeria, Paulo Coelho ng Brazil at Christina Lamb ng Britain sa authors na nag-ambag ng istorya sa temang: “What I want from every child.”
Ang isang linggong kampanya na binuo ni Finnish first lady Jenni Haukio, ay magtatapos sa Nobyembre 20 – ang anibersaryo ng pagpapatibay sa U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, na ipinagdiriwang bilang Universal Children’s Day.

“As writers we are able to advocate through the simplicity of storytelling. With this worthy and necessary campaign, we advocate for the protection of the rights of precious children all over the world,’’ sabi ni Adichie sa isang pahayag.
Nagaganap ang kampanya sa panahon na ayon sa UNICEF ay 50 milyong kabataan ang itinaboy sa kanilang mga tirahan dahil sa kaguluhan, gutom, at climate change at 263 milyong bata ang hindi nakakapag-aral.
“It is shocking to see that the lives of many children are still so heavily impacted by the horror of conflict, inequality, poverty and discrimination. I hope these Tiny Stories can remind the world that we must sustain our commitment to all of these children whose lives and futures are at stake,” sabi ni UNICEF spokesperson Paloma Escudero sa isang pahayag.
