Itinalaga ng Malacañang si Dr. Anthony Leachon, dating pangulo ng Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), bilang bagong director ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
“It’s a blessing from God. I’m happy and grateful to add value to our country’s healthcare system.... Hope I could make a difference to the country as clinician, researcher and health reform advocate,” pahayag ni Leachon, na itinalagang kinatawan ng PhilHealth Monetary Board.
Bukod sa pag-upo bilang dating pangulo ng PCP, si Leachon ay isang internist at cardiologist sa Manila Doctors Hospital na itinalaga bilang pangulo ng University of Sto. Tomas Medical Alumni Association (USTMAA).
Naglatag ng tatlong goal si Leachon: 1) Matulungan ang Department of Health (DoH) na maisakatuparan ang universal health care, 2) makahanap ng logistical support sa pamamagitan ng karagdagang pasilidad, supply, human resources sa PhilHealth, 3) at pagpapalakas ng healthcare system sa pagbibigay ng pantay na serbisyo sa mga nangangailangang pasyente.

Tiniyak din ni Leachon na ang bulto ng pondo ng PhilHealth na manggagaling sa sin taxes ay mapupunta sa mga proyekto na may kinalaman sa pagpapabuti ng kalusugan ng publiko.
“With the passage of the Sin Tax Law, where the bulk of the funds go to PhilHealth, I believe it is imperative to ensure appropriate funds are provided for logistical support in terms of facilities, supplies and human resources. I can serve as liaison person between PhilHealth and the medical community in responding with agility to the genuine needs of the Filipino patients,” giit niya.
Nagtapos si Leachon sa University of Sto. Tomas-Faculty of Medicine and Surgery noong 1985 at nakabilang sa mga top notcher sa medical board noong 1986.
Naitalaga siya sa DoH bilang “one peso consultant” for non-communicable diseases mula Nobyembre 2011 hanggang Agosto 2013.
Siya rin ang nagsulong sa pagpapasa sa Kongreso ng Sin Tax Law at Reproductive Health Law.
