Tiwala si Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto na magkakaroon ng dagdag na pondo ang Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) sa pagbabalik ng sesyon ng Senado sa Mayo.

Sinabi ni Recto, na chairman din ng Senate committee on science and technology, na higit na kailangan ang dagdag na pondo lalo na dahil normal ang panahon ngayon.

“A key component of climate change preparation is a well-equipped weather bureau, manned by highly-competent and well-compensated professionals,” ani Recto.

“We want a modern PAGASA that can warn us about typhoons and weather disturbances coming our way and which has a working environment which prevents forecasters from leaving the Philippine area of responsibility,” dagdag niya.

Nais ni Recto na maaprubahan ang pitong modernization program, na kinabibilangan ng equipment and operational techniques, data center, information services, human resources, regional and field weather presence, research and global linkages.

Sa taya ng PAGASA, aabot sa P3.9 bilyon ang kailangan ng ahensiya para sa mga pasilidad at gusali nito.

Ang pondo, ayon kay Recto, ay maaaring magmula sa Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
