Inihayag ng Malacañang na ang pagnanais ni Pangulong Duterte na makipagdiyalogo sa Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) ay isang paraan upang mahimok ang mga bandido na sumuko na lang sa gobyerno.

Ito ang sinabi kahapon ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque makaraang sabihin ni Duterte noong nakaraang linggo na handa siyang magtungo sa kampo ng Abu Sayyaf sa Sulu upang makipag-usapsa mga bandido.

Sa kanyang press briefing kahapon, sinabi ni Roque na gusto lang puntuhin ng Pangulo na handa itong tanggapin ang sinumang kasapi ng Abu Sayyaf na nais sumuko sa pamahalaan, gaya ng ginawa ng ilang miyembro ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), at New People’s Army (NPA).

“I think what he’s saying is, in the same way he has been accepting surrenderees from the MILF, MNLF, and the NPA, he’s willing to accept surrenderees from the ASG,” ani Roque.

“So what he means is surrender and you would be given a new lease on life. That’s as far how I understood that totality of what the President said on the basis of the transcripts,” dagdag niya.

Aniya, ang nasabing apela ni Duterte ay hindi maitutulad sa pormal na pakikipag-usap ng gobyerno sa Communist Party of the Philippines- New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

“Well, I think he’s talking about the fact that we have, in fact, recognized ASG surrenderees lately. So it’s really an enticement for the ASG to surrender,” paglilinaw ni Roque.

Sa taya ni Joint Task Force Sulu (JTFS) Commander, Brig. Gen. Divino Pabayo, nasa 300 na lang ang miyembro ng Abu Sayyaf sa Sulu.
