MAY malaking pagbabago sa announcement ng Top 16 semi-finalists ng Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant sa finals na gaganapin sa Las Vegas, Nevada sa November 26 (Lunes sa Pilipinas).
“For the first cut, three candidates from each region will be selected based on scores plus one spot for the girl with the most votes in that region,” sabi ni Norman Tinio, ng normannorman.com, isang popular na blog tungkol sa international at local beauty pageants, nang mainterbyu sa Parañaque City nitong Huwebes ng gabi.

Wika ni Tinio: “And then, there will be 4 (four) remaining Wild Card spots from around the world.
“So there will be 4 girls from the Americas, 4 girls from Europe, 4 from girls from Asia, Africa and Pacific; and 4 wild cards. A total of 16 semi-finalists.”
Bagamat makatutulong ang fan votes para mapasama sa Top 16 ang candidate, may unconfirmed reports na ang 92 candidates ang siyang pipili ng nais nilang mapasali sa Top 16 semi-finalists.
Ang worldwide fan voting para sa Miss Universe 2017 pageant ay magtatapos sa Nov. 25, isang araw bago ganapin ang finals.

Si Rodgil Flores, pinuno ng Kagandahang Flores beauty camp na nag-train kay Miss Philippines Rachel Peters, ay lilipad patungong Las Vegas upang dumalo sa Miss Universe pageant sa Lunes. Sasamahan siya ng kanyang pinsan na si Gio Flores.
Si Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach at mentor na si Jonas Gaffud ng Aces and Queens beauty camp ay nagtungo na rin sa Las Vegas para dumalo sa finals ng Miss Universe contest.
“On our way to Las Vegas! Excited for Miss Universe 2017,” wika ni Gaffud nang mag-share ng litrato kasama si Pia na kuha sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 sa Parañaque City nitong Huwebes.
Isa si Pia sa mga napili upang maging isa sa telecast judges ng pageant ngayong taon. Sa Miss Universe contest, and telecast judge ang siyang tumutulong sa pagpili ng winner habang isinasagawa ang worldwide live telecast ng finals.
Ayon kay Flores, in high spirits si Rachel habang papalapit na ang pageant date sa kabila ng mga kontrobersiya sa social media dahil sa nag-leak na kuha sa kanyang evening gown na gagamitin sa finals.
Ang reaksiyon ni Flores sa design ng evening gown na nag-leak: “She brought six gowns for the Miss Universe contest.
We have already chosen which gown she will wear in the finale.”
Tumanggi siyang kumpirmahin kung ang evening gown na nag-viral nga ba ang isusuot para sa finale. “Abangan na lang po nila. Ilang araw na lang naman.”
Nagalit si Rachel sa nag-upload ng kanyang her evening gown sa Internet.
“To whoever leaked pictures of my evening gown, thank you for teaching me a lesson about being more careful who you trust.
“Not sure what your intentions were but no matter what, you’re not dragging me down.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about the dress you wear, how you walk or even the elements of surprise. What’s important is that you are kind and true to yourself... that’s when a girl truly shines!” sabi ni Rachel sa isang post.
Naging tradisyon na ng mga namamahala sa Bb. Pilipinas beauty contest ang hindi pagbubunyag sa outfits ng kanilang competing delegates sa international pageants hangga’t hindi dumarating ang finals night.
Ayon kay Flores, nagpadala siya ng text message kay Rachel pagkatapos ng preliminary competitions.
“I congratulated her for her wonderful performance. Basta happy s’ya at happy kami kasi andu’n ‘yung control, very queenly s’ya,” sabi ni Flores.
Sinabi ni Flores na batay sa performance ni Rachel sa preliminaries, “She deserves a spot in the Top 16.”
Nang hingan ng kanyang final advice kay Rachel, aniya: “Just stay focused. This is it! Ang lapit-lapit na! You worked so hard for the past years, ito na ‘yung culminating night.”
Ayon pa kay Flores, ang Bicolana beauty queen ay hindi iyong tipo na umuurong dahil lang sa pressure.
“Gagalingan pa n’ya lalo kasi na-inspire s’ya du’n sa mga comments and reviews sa prelims n’ya which is outstanding naman ‘yung performance n’ya. At saka boto lang po kayo for Rachel,” sabi ni Rodgil Flores.
