Kung may isang bansa na kayang pigilan ang China sa pagpasok sa Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas, ito ay walang iba kundi ang United States (US).
Ito ang binigyang diin ni Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, sa pagsasara ng RP-US Amphibious Landing Exercise o PHIBLEX33, na idinaos sa Marine headquarters sa Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City nitong Martes.
Sa kanyang talumpati, nagbigay ng briefing si Carpio sa mga sundalong Pilipino at Amerikano hinggil sa mapa ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
“There is only one power on Earth that can stop the Chinese from poaching on our EEZ and that’s the US. However, under the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT), a Philippine Navy ship if attack in our EEZ in the West Philippine Sea will trigger the operation of the MDT,” ayon kay Carpio.

Sinabi pa nito na kapag hindi na nagpatrol sa nasabing rehiyon, aatakehin ng mga dayuhang mangingisda ang EEZ ng Pilipinas.
“Well if we don’t patrol then foreign fishing vessels will just poach on our EEZ. We will lose billions of pesos in fish and anyone can attack our facility in Malampaya if we don’t protect it,” dagdag pa ni Carpio.
