Tatanggalin o hindi na gagamitin ng Kamara ang terminong “extrajudicial killing” dahil wala namang parusang kamatayan o death penalty sa bansa.

Inaprubahan ng komite na pinamumunuan ni Rep. Romeo Acop (2nd District, Antipolo City) ang mosyon ni Deputy Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia na kumuwestiyon sa terminong “extrajudicial killing” sapagkat hindi naman ipinaiiral ang capital punishment o death penalty sa Pilipinas.

“I am really curious what the definition of extrajudicial killing is because extrajudicial would mean outside of the parameters of a judicial killing. But do we have such a thing as judicial killing in the Philippines? As far as I know, the last law that was passed that imposed the death penalty by lethal injection was Republic Act 8177,” ani Garcia.

Sinabi niya na ang kanyang ama na si dating Cebu Rep. Pablo Garcia ang may-akda ng panukala ng RA 8177, ngunit pinawalang-saysay ito ng RA 9346. (Bert de Guzman)
