Makikipagtagisan din ng lakas at katatagan ang ilang local celebrity sa gaganaping Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships sa Agosto 7 sa Cebu.

Ang aktor at sportsman na sina Matteo Guidecelli, Xander Angeles, Ivan Carapiet, television host Kim Atienza at Dyan Castillejo, Paul Jake Castillo at Gilbert Remulla at Sunrise Events Inc. founder Wilfred Uytengsu ay kabilang sa sasabak sa swim-bike-run event na gaganapin sa bansa sa unang pagkakataon.

Lalahok sila sa kompetisyon na binubuo ng 1.9km swim, 90km bike at 21km run habang sasabak sa individual competition sina Dingdong Dantes (bike), Piolo Pascual (bike), Anthony Pangilinan (bike), Hannah Pangilinan (swim), Gretchen Fullido (swim), Bubbles Paraiso (run), Ella Pangilian (run), at Sam YG (swim) para sa relay team event ng top-level endurance race na magsisimula at magtatapos sa Shangrila-La Mactan Resort and Spa sa Lapu-Lapu City.

Kasama nila sa mahigit 2,900 triathlete mula sa 43 mga bansa na kalahok sa event na inorganisa ng SEI at suportado ng Cobra Energy Drink na siyang title sponsor at ng Ford bilang presenting sponsor at may record total prize money na $75,000.

“With over 2,900 athletes from 43 countries, this is the biggest triathlon in the history of the Philippines,” sambit ni Uytengsu.

“We have assembled the largest cast of pro triathletes – over 30, many of whom are world champions competing and preparing not just for the rights to be Asia Pacific champion but also for the world championships in Australia set a few months after the race.” (Marivic Awitan)
