Nalagpasan ng Philippine Air Force, sa pangunguna ni Rio Olympics-bound Eric Cray, ang national record sa men’s 4x100 meter relay kahapon sa 2016 Ayala-Philippine National Open Invitational Athletics Championships sa Philsports Track Stadium in Pasig.

Kaagad na sumirit si Cray nang maiabot ang baton ng kasanggang si Brandon Thomas para sa huling ratsada at maitala ang 40.54 segundo.

Nabura ng grupo ni Cray ang 11 taong national record na 40.55 nina Arnold Villarube, Ralph Waldy Soguilon, Albert Salcedo at Henry Dagmil noong 2005 SEA Games.

“The team broke it. It’s a blessing in disguise,” sambit ni Cray, sasabak sa Rio Games sa 400-m hurdles.

Kasama rin sa koponan sina Edgardo Alejan at Isidro del Prado Jr.

“That’s his only event. He will not run the 4x400 meter relays. It might hamper his preparation for the Olympics in the 400-meter low hurdles. He failed to communicate properly, and was not aware of procedures,” pahayag ni PATAFA president Philip Ella Juico.

Nakuha ng RTU ang silver medal sa tyempong 42.63 segundo habang pangatlo ang San Beda College (45.02).
