MAY bagong Wesley So pa kaya ang Team Philippines?

IPINALILIWANAG ni NCFP director Martin Gaticales ang kahalagahan ng matibay na programa sa grassroots para makalikha ng bagong Wesley So ang chess community, habang nakikinig ang kapwa panauhin mula sa Sambo Philippines sa ginanap na TOPS ‘Usapang Sports’ nitong Huwebes sa national Press Club (NPC) sa Intramuros.

Para kay Martin ‘Binky’ Gaticales, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) director, malaki ang tsansa ng Pinoy, sa pakikipagtuluingan ng pribadong sektor at pamahalaan, na umunlad sa sports at maabot ang estado ni So. Na naging Grandmaster sa batang edad na 16.

“I think that with Wesley So migrating in the US, it’s about time that we magdiscover young chess players who can follow Wesley’s footsteps,” pahayag ni Gaticales, director din ng Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA), s akanyang pagbisita sa ‘Usapang Sports’ ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) nitong Huwebes sa National Press Club sa Intramuros.

“As of now, may mga kinakausap na tayong possible sponsors which we will tap to fund the tournament. I think it’s just right that we approach people from the private sector at huwag lang tayo basta umasa sa gobyerno,” sambit ni Gaticales sa lingguhang sports program na itinataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission,National Press Club, PAGCOR, Community Basketball Association (CBA) at HG Guyabano Tea Leaf Drinks ni Mike Atayde.

“This is going to be a genuine grassroots program, because we intend to search for chess talents even in the farthest barangays of the country,” sambit ni Gaticales.

Isinusulong ni Gaticales ang mga torneo sa grassroots, sa pakikipagtulungan ng corporate firms, upang malapawak ang programa sa chess at mas maraming kabataan ang maglaro nito.

“Ttraining young minds will result in a better future for the country, since playing chess will help young men to develop discipline, focus and mental toughness. Let us help one another. Instead of wasting the minds of the youth, let us help them become future leaders, not only of our country, but also of the corporate world,” aniya.
