Hiniling ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon sa pambansang pulisya na tigilan na ang pagkakanlong sa kanilang mga kasamahan na nahaharap sa labis na pag-abuso sa kapangyarihan sa pagpapatupad ng kampanya kontra droga.

Kamakailan lamang, ipinahayag ni Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa na wala siyang nakikitang mali sa umano’y secret jail ng Manila Police District-Station 1 sa Tondo, Maynila, at kinuwestiyon ang “timing” ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa pagkakadiskubre sa nabanggit na kulungan.

“I condemn this illegal, inhumane and outrageous action committed by some of our policemen,” ani Drilon. “I am alarmed by this culture of impunity among our policemen. Not a single police officer has been held criminally liable in the death of thousands of the casualties of the campaign against drugs.”

Abril 27 nang nadiskubre ng mga tauhan ng CHR ang sekretong bilangguan sa nasabing presinto, kung saan may 12 drug suspect ang nakapiit.

“I do not see how General Dela Rosa can say that his cops did nothing wrong, when the Constitution and the law is clear that having a secret detention is illegal,” ayon pa kay Drilon. “Dela Rosa should be disturbed about the rise in cases of police brutality and abuses under his watch. The PNP Chief should be more circumspect with his statements, as any reckless words from him only convince everyone that there is indeed a culture of impunity in the PNP these days,” dagdag niya. - Leonel M. Abasola
