DAHIL sa kaibigang direktor ay napapayag si Jasmine Curtis Smith na gumanap bilang lesbian sa Baka Bukas na kasali sa narrative featured category sa Cinema One Originals Festival 2016 na gaganapin sa Nobyembre 14–22 sa Trinoma Cinema, Gateway Cinema, Greenhills at Cinematheque.

“I accepted this film not because of Cinema One but because of Sam Lee, the director, so parang mas naging personal ‘yung reason for accepting the movie,” sabi ng aktres nang mainterbyu namin ng one-on-one bago nagsimula ang Q and A ng press launch ng filmfest sa 9501 Restaurant.

Kasama rin sa Baka Bukas ang GMA artist na si Louise de los Reyes at Kate Alejandrino.

Lesbian si Direk Sam Lee kaya tinanong namin nang diretso si Jasmine kung ano ang relasyon niya sa direktor.

“I met her last year sa mga writers namin sa play na No Filter 2.0, so after no’n lagi na kaming nagkikita sa events and then one event earlier this year, in-approach niya ako to do the film,” sagot ng dalaga.

Kuwento ni Jasmine, best friends sila ni Louise sa istorya ng pelikula hanggang sa nagkagustuhan.

“Ang different angle dito is I’m a lesbian na struggling of coming out to her best friend, kasi in love siya sa best friend niya. So more of relationship ng best friends ang ipapakita rather than falling in love.

“Hindi mo aakalaing ano (lesbian), kasi nga girl pa rin, pero siyempre may naiiba sa galaw,” kuwento ng aktres.

Happy ending ba ang istorya ng characters nila ni Louise sa Baka Bukas?

“Sana... may two options, nag-two takes lang kami kasi iba-iba ‘yung emotions namin per take, so hindi ko pa sure which one ‘yung napili ni Direk.”

May na- experience na ba si Jasmine na may nagparamdam sa kanya?

“Lesbian? I don’t know, not that I’m aware of, casually, pero nothing to be taken out of context naman. Normal lang at hindi showbiz kasi wala pa naman ako nakilalang taga-showbiz na aminadong lesbian, eh. Other that, of course, Ms. Aiza Seguerra and her partner (Liza Diño).

“I think, that’s also one of the point in the story because rising actress ‘yung role ni Louise and we can see rin sa industry natin, di ba, na not many people comfortable being honest that they’re lesbian. Usually, ‘tinatago ng artista ‘yan, kasi siyempre paano ka ipapares sa love team, paano ka makikitang iniidolong babae kung ganito ka naman. And for a very conservative country and parang isang anggulo rin we show (sa movie),” pahayag ni Jasmine.

Sa Q and A, inamin ng dalaga na tinanggap niya ang role sa Baka Bukas dahil karamihan naman sa mga kakilala at kaibigan niya sa industry ay kabilang sa LGBT community.

“This is one step further to accept different life. Although this community is mostly recognized by gays, what about lesbians? Siyempre, naging talk din for a while ‘yung transgender. But for some reasons, when it comes to lesbians, taboo na (kasi) people are not comfortable with it. So bakit ganu’n? So I never hesitated,” pangangatwiran ni Jasmine.

May love scene sina Jasmine at Louise sa pelikula pero hindi tulad ng iniisip ng iba.

“Of course ang bansa natin, conservative, maraming conservative na tao na part ng production, part ng making the film na hindi naman gano’n ka-open while watching such scenes in our local industry. Maraming considerations na naganap throughout the film, okay ba ito, papayag ba, mga ganu’ng considerations,” sabi pa.

Napanood ni Jasmine ang French movie na Blue is the Warmest Color na tungkol din sa lesbian relationship na may love scene at kapag inalok daw siya ng ganoon ay tatanggapin niya.

“Of course! My God by all means, I would love to. Siyempre, the final word is not with me, pagkaano puwede na,” natawang sagot niya. (REGGEE BONOAN)
