“The Philippines could remain as friends with our old allies like America. But at the same time, we can be friends of all others, even the enemies of America,” sinabi kahapon ni Almonte sa press briefing sa Malacañang.

“That will be the best policy given, in fact, a situation where we are not as powerful as the rest,” dagdag ni Almonte, na nagsilbing director general ng National Security Council sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Fidel Ramos.

Muling nagalit sa mga pagbatikos ng Amerika sa kanyang digmaan kontra droga, sinabihan ng Pangulo nitong Martes si US President Barack Obama ng “go to hell” at nagbantang posibleng magdesisyon siya “to break up with America”, dahil hindi maaasahan ang huli bilang kaalyado.

“We have to be friends of everybody. Even our enemies, we have to befriend them because they are potential friends,” ani Almonte. “And, you know, our friends could be potential enemies. This is the reality in the world.”
