Sa mga kasaping bansa ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations unang bibiyahe si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Ito ang sinabi ng Department of Foreign Affairs matapos ianunsiyo ni Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza na posibleng bumiyahe si Duterte patungong Malaysia upang makipagpulong kay Prime Minister Najib Razak ngayong Agosto.
“President Duterte’s travel plans are still being finalized but if ever he goes it’ll be part of his introductory visit to ASEAN countries,” sabi ni DFA Spokesperson Charles Jose noong Martes. “In any case, we defer to the Palace to make the announcement.”
Sa news conference sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport sa Pasay City matapos dumating mula sa Malaysia, inihayag ni Dureza na personal na sinabi ni Prime Minister Razak na malugod niyang tatanggapin ang inaasahang pagbisita ni Pangulong Duterte sa Malaysia.

Ipinaliwanag ni Dureza na maaaring magaganap ang pagpupulong nina Duterte at Razak bago ang turnover ceremony sa Laos para sa ASEAN Chairmanship at Summit na aabalahin ng Pilipinas sa susunod na taon.
“The Philippines will be the incoming chair of the ASEAN and so we expect that our president will be there in Laos.
But before that, there is an expectation that he will visit our neighboring countries first before proceeding to the ASEAN heads of state meeting,” ani Dureza sa press briefing.
Bumisita si Dureza sa Malaysia nitong weekend para sa muling paglulunsad ng usapang pangkapayapan sa pagitan ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas at ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). (ROY C. MABASA)
