Natamo ng walang talong si Philippine junior welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto ang WBC Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) 140 pounds title nang mapatigil niya sa 8th round si Pankorn Singwancha ng Thailand sa Almendras Gym sa Davao City kamakailan.

Sa pagwawagi, inaasahang papasok sa WBC rankings si Cabalquinto na napaganda ang kanyang kartada sa perpekto 18 panalo, 11 sa pamamagitan ng knockouts.

“Nag-improved talaga si Adones. May mga kilos na rin siya na tulad kay Manny (Pacquiao). Inikutan niya ang kalaban after ng kanyang combination,” sinabi ng trainer na si Nonoy Neri sa Philboxing.com.

Tiyak namang magbabalik sa world rankings si dating WBA interim super flyweight champion Drian Francisco matapos kumbinsidong talunin sa 10-round unanimous decision si three-time world title challenger John Mark Apolinario.

Napaganda ni Francisco ang kanyang kartada sa 25-2-1 (win-loss-draw) na may 20 panalo sa knockouts at tiniyak niyang maganda ang kanyang comeback fight sa Pilipinas nang pabagsakin sa 5th round si Apolinario.

“[Apolinario] came after me and I threw a jab. He countered with an overhand right, so I stepped back and threw the left hook right at his jaw which sent him down,” ayon kay Francisco. “I wanted to finish the fight in the fifth round but it really wasn’t that easy because Apolinario is a technical fighter.”

“You can’t just finish off technical fighters, it’s not that easy, so I played safe. I prepared for a 10 round fight,” dagdag ni Francisco na hawak ngayon ng conditioning coach ni eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao na si Aussie Justine Fortune. “I also staggered him in the seventh round with a good shot but I just didn’t follow it up.”
