Hinimok ni Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna nitong Biyernes ang lahat ng magulang ng mga batang may cleft lip or cleft palate deformities, na samantalahin at i-avail ang inilunsad na “Zero Cleft Lip/Palate” program ng pamahalaang lungsod.

Ayon kay Lacuna, ang programa ay sama-samang itinataguyod ng city government, sa pamamagitan ng kinatawan nito na si Sta. Ana  director Dr. Grace Padilla at Manila Health Department chief Dr. Poks Pangan at ng Operation Smile Philippines (OSP), isang non-government organization.

Sinabi ng alkalde na ang OSP ay nag-i-specialize sa mga bingot o cleft lip cleft palate advocacy at mapalad ang Sta. Hospital na mapili ng OSP bilang partner sa paglulunsad ng “Zero Cleft Lip/Palate” program.

Ani Lacuna, ang maramihang operasyon ay nakatakdang gawin sa Mayo, 2023.

Aabot aniya sa 70 slots ang target na mapunuan nito. 

Kaugnay nito, pinasalamatan rin ni Lacuna ang organisasyon sa pagtulong sa lungsod at sa batang populasyon na may mga bingot o cleft lip/cleft. 

Pinangunahan din niya ang pagtanggap ng donasyon mula sa OPS at Johnson and Johnson Philippines para 44 sa health centers na kinabibilangan ng  analog infant scale, adult weight and height scale, blood pressure app, pulse oximeters at adult and pediatric stets, at iba pa.

Ang nasabing donasyon ay ibinigay nina Bobby Manzano; Emiliano Romano, OSP Executive Director; Donald Lim, President of the Board; Miggy Gamboa, JnJ Consumer Health Senior Brand Manager; Ana Ysabel Ongpin - JnJ Consumer Health Communication and Public Affairs Lead;  Mark Salas, OSP Program Manager; Carol Arriola - OSP Development Manager and Zachary Funtanilla - OSP Development Associate.

Nabatid na ang community-based initiative ay naglalayong magkaloob ng outreach services sa may 44 barangay sa Maynila.

Layunin ng programa na matukoy at matugunan ang problema ng mga bingot o cleft lip/cleft palate sa mga kabataan sa Maynila sa  Disyembre 2023.

Ayon kay Padilla, ang implementation strategy ng programa ay kinabibilangan ng intensive community case detection sa pamamagitan ng ng health centers ng Manila Health Department at mga barangay.

"The project’s success hinges on partnership and collaboration among significant stakeholders of the community," ayon kay Padilla. 

Sinabi pa ni Padilla na layunin din ng proyekto na bigyan ng kaalaman ang mga miyembro ng komunidad tungkol sa bingot o cleft lip/cleft palate at malaman ng maaga ang pagtukoy dito at sa mga libreng serbisyong kaloob ng  Sta. Ana Hospital sa pamamagitan ng OSP.

"The partnership will go a long way in improving the healthcare system’s capacity and early access to medical services," ayon pa kay Padilla.

"The “Zero Cleft Palate” Program is an important and ambitious effort that demonstrates the power of partnership collaboration and community-based driven interventions. By targeting the root cause of this preventable and treatable disease condition, the program seeks to eliminate barriers to healthcare access and create a brighter future for the children of Manila," dagdag pa nito.
