HUMAKOT ng gintong medalya at mamayagpag ang siyang hiling ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Ricky Vargas sa miyembro ng national bowling team para sa pagsabak nito sa nalalapit na 30th SEA Games sa Nobyembre 30 hanggang Disyebre 11.

“During my younger years, bowling was the number one sport that brought glory to this country.When our bowlers compete against the best of Southeast Asia in the SEA Games, this will be our shining glory. Let’s cheer them to win the gold (medal),’’ pahayag ni Vargas sa kanyang pagdalo sa opening ceremony ng 3rd Philippine International Bowling Open sa Coronado Lanes ng StarMall Edsa.

Pinasinayaan ni Vargas ang naturang torneo na tatagal hanggang Hunyo 16 at magsisilbing test event para sa biennial meet kung saan may siyam na gintong medalya ang nakataya para sa singles, doubles, masters at sa apat na matitinik na koponan para sa men and women at sa mixed doubles.

Pinapurihan ni Vargas ang Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) partikular na ang presidente nito na si Steve Robles at Secretary General na si Bong Coo dahil sa kanilang pagpupursigi sa paghahanda para sa SEA Games.

“I congratulate the PBF and our bowling heroes for bringing the sport for what it is today. I sit in the board of the MVP Sports Foundation and every year we review the sports that we support. It has come to the attention of the board to review the programs of bowling,’’ ani Vargas. .

Dumalo rin sa nasabing event ang dating International Bowling Federation president na si Steve Hontiveros kasama ang ilang kilalang opisyales ng PBF gaya ni PBF treasurer Alex Lim.

Kabilang sa roster ng men’s team sina Kenneth Chua, Frederick Go, Raul Miranda, Merwin Tan, Kenzo Umali, Kayle Abad, Patrick Nuqui, Paolo Valdez at Enzo Hernandez habang sina Liza del Rosario, Alexis Sy, Dyan Coronacion, Lara Posadas, Rachel Leon at Bea Hernandez naman ang bumubuo sa women’s team.
