Sinabi ng Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) na handa silang palayain ang anim na prisoners of war (POWs) bilang pagpapakita ng kagustuhang maipagpatuloy ang usapang pangkapayapaan ng National Democratic Front (NDF) at ng gobyerno (GRP).

Sa isang pahayag sa kanilang website (www.philippinerevolution.info), hinimok ng rebolusyonaryong grupo si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipadala ang kanyang peace panel sa nakatakdang pag-uusap sa Netherlands mula Pebrero 22 hanggang 27 upang maipagpatuloy ang naunang tatlong pag-uusap sa Oslo, Norway; Rome, Italy; at ang huli na gaganapin sa Netherlands.

“As a positive gesture, the Party calls on all concerned NPA units to expedite the release of the six prisoners of war captured over the past days,” saad sa pahayag ng mga rebelde.

Ang mga POW na kasalukuyang hawak ng New People’s Army (NPA) ay sina PFC Edwin Salan, nahuli sa Alegria, Surigao del Norte noong Enero 29; Sgt. Solaiman Calucop at Pfc Samuel Garay, nahuli sa Columbio, Sultan Kudarat noong Pebrero 2; PO2 Jerome Natividad, nahuli sa Talakag, Bukidnon noong Pebrero 9; Paramilitary Rene Doller; at Paramilitary Carl Mark, nahuli sa Lupon, Davao Oriental noong Pebrero 14.

SOLDIERS FOR PEACE

Sinabi ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año na hindi nila lubusang isinasara ang kanilang pintuan sa peace negotiations sa mga komunistang rebelde.

Sa isang panayam sa media fellowship night sa Pine Breeze Hotel sa Baguio City nitong Sabado ng gabi, sinabi ni Año na suportado ng 125,000 magigiting na puwersang militar ang prosesong pangkapayapaan ngunit tiniyak din na hindi nila hahayaan ang mga gerilyang NPA na maghasik ang karahasan at gambalain ang pamumuhay ng mga sibilyan.

“On our part we are not totally closing our doors in the peace negotiations. The Armed Forces, more than anyone else, it is the soldiers who want the peace talks to succeed,” sabi ni Año.

“But we will not allow the CPP-NPA to conduct atrocities and similar activities and imperil the lives of the ordinary people in the community,” dagdag niya.

UMAASA RIN

Tulad ng iba pa, umaasa rin si National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon na magpapatuloy ang peace negotiations ng gobyerno at ng CPP-NPA-NDF.

“Well, I myself is in favor of resuming the peace talks. You know who, where I came from. I was in OPAPP (Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process) before. I was a combatant and the first people who would want this are the combatants,” ani Esperon.

Gayunman, sinabi ni Esperon na hindi matatamo ang kapayapaan kung ang isang grupo ay nakikipagdigma.
