DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP)– Liliban si Roger Federer mula sa Davis Cup ngayong taon matapos pangunahan ang Switzerland sa una nilang titulo noong 2014.
Naglaro si Federer sa buong Davis Cup noong nakaraang taon, kung saan tinalo ng Switzerland ang France, 3-1, sa final. Ang Davis Cup ang natatanging major competition na hindi pa noon napapanalunan ng 17-time Grand Slam champion.
Hindi kasama si Federer sa lineup sa pag-uumpisa ng Switzerland sa pagdepensa nila sa titulo sa Belgium sa Marso 6-8. At sinabi ni Federer na wala siyang plano na maglaro sa Davis Cup ngayong taon.
‘’It wasn’t a difficult decision,’’ sabi ng 33-anyos na si Federer noong Lunes sa Dubai. “‘I have played for so long, and I think by winning it I can finally do whatever I please, to be quite honest.’’

Ang Swiss team sa Belgium ay maglalaro rin na wala ang 2013 Australian Open champion na si Stan Wawrinka.
Si Federer ay naglaro sa 26 Davis Cup ties mula 1999 para sa pangkalahatang 50-17 win-loss record.
‘’It’s been a big burden for me throughout my career and one of the things that have caused more difficulties in my life than many other things, I must say,’’ ani Federer.
“‘I always feel there is so much guilt put on you from the federation or from the ITF more so than anybody else. So I’m happy I was able to finally tick that off and do it altogether.’’
