Pangungunahan ng Pilipinas ang pagpaparangal sa mga outstanding individual mula sa ASEAN region na may mahalagang naiambag sa biodiversity conservation at advocacy efforts sa kani-kanilang bansa.
Sampung bayani mula sa Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao Peoples’ Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, at Vietnam ang pararangalan bukas, Agosto 7, sa awarding ceremony ng ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes sa Maynila.
Bukod sa pagtanggap ng parangal, ibabahagi ng mga bayani ang kani-kanilang karanasan sa biodiversity conservation sa isang forum na dadaluhan ng mga kinatawan mula sa gobyerno, negosyo, kabataan, at conservation sectors, at diplomatic community.

“I am proud that in this year of Philippine chairmanship of ASEAN, biodiversity occupies an important place in the collective ASEAN agenda. By recognizing the important contributions of 10 individuals from ASEAN member-states in promoting biodiversity conservation, the ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes Award creates fertile ground where inspiration can take root and prod other individuals to also act as heroesand initiate wider public involvement within the ASEAN community,” ayon kay Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso, Permanent Representative ng Pilipinas sa ASEAN at namamhala sa Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR).
