UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Tinawag ng pangulo ng UN General Assembly si Fidel Castro na “one of the 20th century’s most iconic and influential leaders” sa memorial tribute noong Martes para sa namayapang commander ng Cuban revolution na pinamunuan ang kanyang bansa sa loob ng halos 50 taon.
Sinabi ni Peter Thompson sa seremonya sa assembly chamber na para sa maraming tao si Castro ang kumatawan sa “struggle of the global south for independence, justice and development’’ at naging inspirasyon ng mga aktibista sa buong mundo.
Tinawag ni UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon si Castro na “one of the most important Latin American leaders of the 20th century’’.
Pumanaw si Castro noong Nobyembre 25 sa edad na 90.
