Lahat ay nagpahayag ng duda sa shootout na naganap sa bilangguan sa Baybay, Leyte na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ni Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., dahilan upang iporma ang kaliwa’t kanang imbestigasyon.
Kahapon, ipinag-utos ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II ang pagdaraos ng masusing imbestigasyon.
Nakaamba ang imbestigasyon ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police (PNP) at Senado.

“Kaduda-duda ang mga naturang pangyayari kaya dapat imbestigahan para malaman ang buong pangyayari at ang katotohanan,” wika ni Aguirre.
Search warrant sa selda?
Sa panig ni Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno, kinuwestiyon nito ang pagsisilbi ng search warrant sa selda ni Espinosa, at itinaon pa na madaling araw ito isinilbi.
Sa insidente ‘nanlaban’ umano si Espinosa sa mga elemento ng Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8, at napatay ito sa shootout.
Dahil sa mga lumutang na kuwestiyon sa operasyon, sinabi ni Sueno na dapat magdaos ng malalimang imbestigasyon.
‘Wag basta maniwala sa salitang ‘nanlaban’
Kinatigan naman ni Senator Risa Hontiveros ang panawagang muling buksan ng Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights ang imbestigasyon sa extrajudicial killings, kasabay ng panawagang “huwag basta paniwalaan ang salitang nanlaban.”
Ang pagbubukas sa imbestigasyon ay bunsod ng pagkakapaslang kay Espinosa.
“Don’t easily believe the ‘nanlaban’ narrative,” ayon kay Hontiveros. “The public must not swallow hook, line and sinker the lackadaisical ‘nanlaban’ narrative on all drug-related deaths. More than ever, we must be scrutinizing and critical. The search for truth, justice and accountability demands our devoted watchfulness.”
Pabor sa imbestigasyon
Pabor naman si Senator Richard Gordon na muling imbestigahan ang EJKs, kasunod ng pagkamatay ni Espinosa.
Pero ayon kay Gordon, isusumite na muna niya ang committee report hinggil sa walang humpay na pamamaslang na natapos noong Oktubre 22.
“I will talk to Sen. (Panfilo) Lacson, who has expressed intention to seek the resumption of our investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings following the killing of Mayor Espinosa, ani Gordon.
Nauna nang sinabi ni Lacson na pabor siya sa masusing imbestigasyon. Aniya, ngayon lang siya nakarinig ng magsisilbi ng search warrant sa bilangguan.
Pasilip sa UN rapporteur
Hiniling naman ni House Senior Deputy Minority Leader at BUHAY Rep. Lito Atienza na isama sa gagawing imbestigasyon ni United Nations (UN) rights rapporteur Agnes Callamard ang pagpaslang kay Espinosa.
“We are counting on the United Nations Human Rights Council’s special rapporteur to specially investigate the killing of the mayor, along with the Oct. 9 murder of Mindoro Oriental anti-crime crusader Zenaida Luz by two junior police officers cloaked in civilian clothes,” ani Atienza.
Binigyang diin ni Atienza na dapat nang tuldukan ng Camp Crame ang extrajudicial killings. “Enough is enough already,” ayon sa kongresista.
Top level team
Kahapon, nagpadala na ang CIDG ng top level investigation team sa Leyte para mag-imbestiga.
“They flew to Leyte this morning, they will assist the Regional Internal Affairs Service in the investigation,” ayon kay Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, CIDG chief.
Ang CIDG team ay kinabibilangan nina Senior Supt. Ramon Rafael, lawyer Virgilio Pablico at Senior Police Officer 1 Rudy Gahar.
