Medical at Neuro test sa MMA fighters, kasado na rin sa GAB-DOH partnership

APRUBADO na sa Department of Health (DOH) ang rekomendasyon ng Games and Amusement Board (GAB) na maisama ang mixed martial arts fighters sa mabibigyan ng libreng diagnostic, medical at neurologic examination sa 28 DOH-supervised hospital sa bansa.

Batay sa inilabas na Administrative Order No. 2019-0006 na may petsang Mayo 23, 2019, isinama ng DOH sa revised guidelines ang provision sa nilagdaang bagong Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) sa pagitan nina GAB Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra at DOH Secretary Francisco Doque noong Agosto 15, 2018.

“In line with FOURmula One Plus for Health, the country’s platform to boost universal health care, DOH and GAB entered into a new MOA on August 15, 2018 to continue the provision of services to boxing professionals and to include Mixed Martial Arts Professionals for a term of two (2) years.

“A.O No.2019-0006 provides the guideline for the implementation of the renewed MOA and the Salient Features,” batay sa DOH A.O.

Ipinarating ni GAB Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra ang pasasalamat sa DOH at iginiit na ang kaganapan ay tapik sa balikat para sa patuloy na pagsibol ng MMA professional sa bansa.

“We are elated by this news that not only Filipino pro boxers will enjoy free medical check-ups but also mixed martial arts practitioners. This is a request from then when they heard about the news for free medicals for boxers and were very happy that the DOH has given it a go,” pahayag ni Mitra.

“Once again the Duterte administration thru the Games and Amusement Board has achieved a never before feat for our Mixed Martial Arts fighters. Just like pro boxers the athletes will now be enjoying free medical check-ups or procedures which is a requirement to get a license and practice as a professional MMA fighter,” aniya.

Ayon kay Mitra ang kaganapan ay patunay na hindi nagpapabaya ang GAB para maibigay sa professional athletes, higit yaong nasa Combat sports ang kinakailangang medical requirements para sa kanilang proteksyon.

Matatandaan na isinulong ng GAB ang libreng medical, diagnostic at neurological services para sa Pinoy boxers batay sa MOA sa DOH noong 2017. Ang naturang programa ng GAB ay kinilala ng international boxing communities at naging batayan para igawad ng World Boxing Council (WBC) ang parangal na Commission of the Year sa GAB noong 2017.

“Ang atin pong programa sa free medical sa mga boxers ay ginamit na blue print ng ibang boxing commission sa buong mundo, batay na rin sa rekomendasyon ng WBC leadership,” sambit ni Mitra.

Sa kaganapan, umaasa si Mitra na mas magpupursige ang MMA organizers at promoters na i-professionalized ang kanilang asosasyon at kunan ng lisensya ang kanilang MMA fighters.

“Ito pong ginawa namin sa GAB at sa tulong ng DOH ay para sa ating mga atleta sa combat sports. Alam natin na marami pa rin ang nagtatago na amateur sila,pero for the sake of the fighters, ipalisensiya po natin sila dahil ang kalusugan at ang buhay nila ang nakataya sa bawat laban,” pahayag ni Mitra.

Sa kasalukuyan ang mga Combat sports organization na lisensiyado ang mga fighters sa GAB ay ang Universal Reality Combat Championship ni Alvin Aguilar, WBC Muay Thai, BRAVE, ONE FC, Wrestling Professional League at Cage Gladiators nina Burn Soriano at Laurence Canavan.

“We’re hoping other organizations will follow. Ipa-sanctioned po natin sa GAB ang ating tournament at palisensyahan an gating mga fighters para mabigyan sila ng proteksyon. Para pos a sports ito at sa mga atleta,” pahayag ni Mitra.

Ilan sa libreng medical services na makukuha ng boxers at MMA fighters ay ang mga sumunod: 1) medical examination; 2) neurological examination; 3) neurophysiological test; 4) chest x-ray; 5) electrocardiogram; 6) hepatitis B surface antigen; 7) drug testing; 8) complete blood count; 9) urinalysis; 10) electroencephalogram; 11) SGPT; 12) pregnancy test.

Bukod dito, idinagdag din ang libreng Dilated Fundoscopic Exe Examination, Computed Temography (CT) Scan o Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRI/MRA).
