IOC doping banned sa 28 Russian, ibinasura ng CAS
MOSCOW (AP) — Ibinasura ng Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) ang doping banned na ipinataw ng International Olympic committee (IOC) sa 28 Russian athletes.
Sa desisyon na inilabas ng CAS nitong Huwebes (Biyernes sa Manila) tila nalagay sa alanganin ang ipinapatupad na doping policy ng Olympic body. Nakatakda rin ibalik sa pitong Russian ang mga medalyang napagwagihan sa kontrobersyal na 2014 Sochi Olympics, kabilang ang gintong medalya sa men’s skeleton at men’s 50-kilometer cross-country skiing.

“This does not mean that these 28 athletes are declared innocent, but in their case, due to insufficient evidence, the appeals are upheld, the sanctions annulled and their individual results achieved in Sochi are reinstated,” pahayag ni CAS secretary general Matthieu Reeb sa pagpupulong sa Pyeongchang.
Magkahalong respeto at pagkadismaya naman ang naging tugon ng IOC sa desisyon ng CAS.
“The IOC is taken note of the CAS decision with satisfaction on the one hand and disappointment on the other,” pahayag ni IOC. “It may have a serious impact on the future fight against doping.”
May pagkakataon ang 28 na makakuha ng slots bilang ‘late entry’ sa Pyeongchang Olympics, ngunit nilinaw ng IOC na “not being sanctioned does not automatically confer the privilege of an invitation.”
Iginiit naman ni Russian President Vladimir Putin na isang vindication ang naturang ruling.
“Can’t fail to please us, and it confirms our position that the overwhelming majority of our athletes are clean athletes,” aniya.
Nanawagan din si Putin na irespeto ang IOC.
“There should not be any euphoria from our side and we need to be calm about this,” aniya.
Sinabi naman ni Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko na handa ang pamahalaan na gamitin ang anumang legal na pamamaraan sakaling pagbawalan ang kanilang mga atleta na sumabak sa Pyeongchang.
May 11 pang Russians ang ipinagwalang bisa ang naunang ‘doping case’, ngunit pinanatili ang lifetime bans na ibinigay ng IOC disciplinary panel may dalawang buwan na ang nakalilipas.
“In 28 cases, the evidence collected was found to be insufficient to establish that an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) was committed by the athletes concerned,” ayon sa ulat ng CAS.
“CAS unanimously found that the evidence put forward by the IOC in relation to this matter did not have the same weight in each individual case,” anila.
Ibinasura naman ng World Anti-Doping Agency ang posibilidad na iapela ang desisyon ng CAS.
