Sumasangguni na ang Department of Foreign Affairs sa iba’t ibang ahensiya ng pamahalaan kung maghahain ito ng protesta sa paggalugad ng isang Chinese survey ship sa Benham Rise.
“We are studying the matter in consultation with other concerned agencies,” sabi ni Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Charles Jose sa maikling pahayag kahapon.
Sinabi ng Malacañang na nababahala ito sa ginawang panghihimasok ng barko ng China sa rehiyong pag-aari ng Pilipinas.

“We are concerned about the presence of a Chinese ship in Benham Rise, which has been recognized by the United Nations as part of the Philippines,” sabi ni Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella.
“The Department of National Defense has already notified the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter as we continue to assert our sovereignty over our territory,” dugtong niya.
Ang Benham Rise, kilala rin bilang Benham Plateau, ay isang seismically active undersea region at extinct volcanic ridge sa Philippine Sea na matatagpuan 250 kilometro mula sa silangan ng Dinapigue, Isabela.
Naghain ang Pilipinas ng pag-aangkin sa Benham Rise noong 2008 alinsunod sa mga hinihiling ng United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Opisyal itong inaprubahan ng UN noong Abril 12, 2012.
Sinabi ni DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana nitong Huwebes na nakita sa mga larawang kuha sa satellite ang isang Chinese survey ship na naglayag ito sa Benham Rise sa loob ng tatlo hanggang anim na buwan noong nakaraang taon.
Nanawagan si dating National Security Adviser at dating Philippine Navy officer Roilo Golez sa gobyerno na maghain ng “very strong protest” sa China.
Diin niya, walang dahilan ang China para pumunta sa lugar. “They cannot claim innocent passage, because Benham Rise is not part of the traditional sea lanes,” ani Golez. (Genalyn D. Kabiling at Roy C. Mabasa)
