Pinag-aaralan ngayon ng Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) na suspindihin pansamantala ang pagpapadala ng Filipino household service workers sa Kuwait.
Sinabi ni Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III na sunod-sunod ang natatanggap nilang mga tawag para sa moratorium dahil sa mga pang-aabusong nararanasan ng mga OFW, lalo na ang mga babaeng kasambahay.
“We are taking this call for a moratorium seriously. We will conduct consultations with our partners and other government agencies,” pahayag ni Bello na lumipad patungong Kuwait mula Rome upang tingnan ang kalagayan ng iba pang mga Pilipino na nasa death row.
Isa sa mga nanawagan ng moratorium sa OFW deployment sa Kuwait si ACTS-OFW Partylist Rep. John Bertiz.

“Incidences of maltreatment and other abuses committed against our countrymen are too high in Kuwait. Suspending OFW deployment in this country is highly recommended,” aniya.
Diin ni Bertiz, isa ring dating OFW at ngayon ay miyembro ng House Committee on OFW Welfare: “Kuwait should be made to feel the consequences of what abusive employers have done to our OFW. Consider this moratorium punishment.”
