Sa bandang huli, nagdesisyon pa rin si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magdeklara ng Christmas truce sa Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) upang maginhawang ipagdiwang ng mga Pilipino ang Pasko at Bagong Taon nang may peace of mind.

Inihayag ng Pangulo sa Christmas party sa mga miyembro ng kanyang Gabinete nitong Martes ng gabi na ipatutupad ng gobyerno ang 10-araw na tigil-putukan sa NPA simula sa Disyembre 24 hanggang sa Enero 2, 2018.

“This unilateral ceasefire would lessen the apprehension of the public this Christmas season. We expect that the CPP-NPA-NDFP would do a similar gesture of goodwill,” saad sa pahayag ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque kahapon. “Christmas holds a special place in the hearts of our countrymen. In the observance of this occasion, we hope that all Filipinos would stand together as one nation and aspire for peace in our beloved Philippines.”

OKAY SA DND

Ayon kay Roque, suportado ng Department of National Defense (DND) ang pagdedeklara ni Duterte ng suspension of military operations (SOMO).

Bagamat aminadong tutol siya, sinabi ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana sa presscon kahapon sa Camp Aguinaldo na ipatutupad ng kagawaran ang anumang nais ng Pangulo.

“Ah, ganun ba? Well, we will follow the directive of the President kung nag-ano siya,” sabi ni Lorenzana. “I was actually adamant and was… ayaw ko sanang mag-ano. I did not recommend for the cessation of military operation against the CPP-NPA. But if the President declared, so then we are going to implement and abide by the directive of the President.”

BIGLANG KAMBIYO

Una nang sinabi ni Pangulong Duterte na hindi niya ipag-uutos ang nakaugaliang ceasefire sa mga rebelde ngayong Pasko ilang linggo makaraan niyang kanselahin ang usapang pangkapayapaan sa CPP-NDF at pormal na ideklarang terorista ang NPA.

Bilang ganti, napaulat na pinalaya na ng NPA sina PO2 Jhon Paul M. Doverte at PO2 Alfredo L. Degamon na binihag ng mga rebelde sa Barangay Bad-as sa Placer, Surigao del Norte noong Nobyembre.

“As a goodwill gesture to promote the peace talks between the Government of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, and as a response to the appeals of the families of the Prisoners of War (POWs), the NDFP is releasing the two POWs recently taken into custody by the New People’s Army,” sinabi kahapon ni Ka Oto, tagapagsalita ng Guerilla Front 16 ng NPA.
