Iniimbestigahan ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang katotohanan sa mga alegasyon ng extra judicial killings kaugnay sa ilegal na droga alinsunod sa due process at rule of law.

Ito ang binigyang-diin ng Department of Foreign Affairs sa pahayag na inilabas sa United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (UN-CND) side event na ginanap kamakailan sa Vienna, Austria sa kampanya kontra ilegal na droga ng Pilipinas kung saan ipinalabas ang komento ni Vice President Leni Robredo.

Sa side event na itinaguyod ng anti-drug network, nagsalita si Vice President Robredo kaugnay ng mga umano’y pagpatay at ilegal na pag-aresto sa bansa.

Iginiit ng DFA na ang side event na ito ay hindi bahagi ng official proceedings ng 60th Session ng UN-CND at hindi sumasalamin sa pananaw ng mga kalahok na gobyerno.

Ayon sa DFA, isinusulong ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang “balanced and holistic approach” sa pagsupil sa ilegal na droga sa lahat ng aspeto – prevention, education, enforcement, rehabilitation, at reintegration.

“The Philippines respects fundamental freedoms, including the right of everyone to speak freely on any topic,” diin ng DFA. “However, freedom of expression is a right that comes with the responsibility to ensure that facts are verified, and unfounded allegations from questionable sources are avoided.”

“In this regard, elements in the Vice President’s side event statement need to be verified, as already earlier stated by the Presidential Spokesperson on the matter,” dagdag dito.

HINDI TAKSIL

Sinabi ng isang pari na hindi pagtataksil sa bansa ang video message ni Robredo sa nasabing okasyon.

Ayon kay Father Ranhillo Aquino, Dean ng San Beda Graduate School of Law, walang mali sa video message ni Robredo at lahat ng tao ay may kani-kanyang opinyon at may karapatan sa freedom of speech and expression.

Ang naturang video message ang naging dahilan para sampahan ng impeachment complaint si Robredo sa Mababang Kapulungan dahil sa “betrayal of public trust” nang hiyain umano nito ang Pilipinas sa United Nations.
