Nilinaw kahapon ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II na walang plano si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magdeklara ng martial law dahil mismong ang Presidente “loathed martial law declaration.”
Ito ang tiniyak ng kalihim kahapon kaugnay ng naging pahayag ni Duterte nitong Sabado na maaari siyang magdeklara ng batas militar upang protektahan ang bansa laban sa ilegal na droga, at wala umanong makapipigil sa kanya.
“If I wanted to, and it will deteriorate into something really very virulent, I will declare martial law. No one can stop me. My country transcends everything else, even the limitations,” sinabi ni Duterte sa harap ng mga miyembro ng Davao City Chamber of Commerce.
Gayunman, iginiit ni Aguirre na namali lang ng intindi sa nasabing pahayag ng Pangulo, sinabing nabanggit lang ng huli ang tungkol sa martial law dahil galit ito.

“It was just an expression of anger from the President. He was exasperated by the continuous illegal drug operations in the country despite intensified efforts by the government,” paliwanag ni Aguirre.
“The public and the media should not be surprised and rather be already accustomed to this mindset of the President,” sabi pa ni Aguirre.
‘MISREPORTING’ NA NAMAN
Ito rin ang ikinatwiran ni Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar kasabay ng pagtuligsa sa ilang media report na umano’y nagpaiba sa komento ni Duterte.
“The President has categorically said no to martial law. He even made a pronouncement saying that martial law did not improve the lives of the Filipinos,” ani Andanar. “We therefore decry the latest misreporting that the President will declare martial law simply ‘if he wants to’ or that ‘no one can stop the President from declaring martial law.’ Such headlines sow panic and confusion to many. We consider this kind of reportage as the height of journalistic irresponsibility.”
MAGKAIBA SINA MARCOS AT DUTERTE
Pinawi rin ni Atty. Salvador Panelo, chief presidential legal counsel, ang anumang pangamba ng publiko na muling iiral sa bansa ang batas militar—sinabi niyang malaki ang pagkakaiba nina Pangulong Duterte at dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos.
“Mayroong mga safeguards under the present Constitution but we must remember that there is a wide difference between Marcos and Mr. Duterte,” sinabi ni Panelo sa panayam sa radyo. “Tandaan po natin na si Presidente Duterte is a very out of character na nang-aabuso. In fact, iyon nga ang naging batayan ng kanyang panunungkulan bilang alkade at bilang presidente, ayaw na ayaw niya ng abuso.”
“Sinabi niya (Duterte) kahapon, magde-declare man ako ng martial law, hindi para palawigin ang aking termino, para sa atin lahat iyon. Gagawin ko lang ‘yan upang pangalagaan ang ating bansa at i-preserve ang ating bayan,” paliwanag pa ni Panelo.
SUPORTA NI BATO, 1,000%
Kaugnay nito, nangako naman ang hepe ng 160,000 operatiba ng Philippine National Police (PNP), si Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa na susuportahan niya ang anumang hakbangin ni Duterte sa pagdedeklara ng batas militar.
“By all means, we will support the President if he declare (martial law),” sabi ni Dela Rosa at inilarawan ang suporta niya sa 101-1,000 porsiyento.
Gayunman, binigyang-diin ni Dela Rosa na titiyakin niyang hindi mauulit ang mga pag-abusong dinanas ng mga Pilipino nang pairalin ni Marcos ang batas militar noon.
MAGHANDA SA BAGONG DIKTADOR
“We have learned a lot in history. Why did People Power happen? Because of the abuses of Martial Law right? So if you do not want People Power to happen, then don’t abuse Martial Law,” ani Dela Rosa.
Nanawagan naman si Senator Antonio Trillanes IV sa publiko na maghanda na sa paglaban sa isang diktador at pinayuhan ang militar na rebisahin ang Konstitusyon.
