Matapos ang 20 taon, muling inilunsad ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang kanilang TaeKwonDo black belt, instructor, and referee course.

Huling inialok sa PNP personnel noong 1994, ang nasabing event ay muling binuksan para sa mga pulis na nagnanais matuto at sa kalaunan ay makapagturo ng Korean martial art. Sa huling bilang, umabot na sa 64 pulis ang nagpatala para sa black belt, instructor, at referee course nang ito ay pormal na buksan noong Lunes sa PNP Training Service sa Camp Crame.

Karamihan sa mga pulis na nagpartisipa sa nasabing programa ay nagmula sa National Headquarters (NHQ), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) at Region IV-A.

“After more than 2 decades, I am happy that the PNP TaeKwonDo Association has offered this black belt course to PNP personnel once again,” sabi ni Police Senior Superintendent Roberto B. Fajardo, project manager.

“Learning the sport will be helpful to the policemen in discharging their daily duties as law enforcers, dahil mas lalakas ang pangangatawan nila at mas tatalas ang utak. Also, they will learn unarmed combat, dahil hindi sa lahat ng oras ay kailangang gamitin ang baril,” dagdag ni Fajardo.

Hindi lamang ang pamunuan ng PNP ang nagpaabot ng suporta sa nasabing programa kundi maging ang mismong Philippine TaekwonDo Association sa pangunguna ni chief instructor at chief executive officer Grandmaster Sung Chon Hong.

“The PTA is one of the most organized sports association in the Philippines, and we are more than glad to support this program in the PNP that promotes taekwondo as well as enriching the knowledge of our policemen,” lahad ni Raul “Rocky” Samson, ang technical at game committee head ng PTA na kumatawan kay Hong at nagsilbing guest of honor at speaker.

“We hope that the participants will take advantage of the training that they will undergo and fully utilize their newfound knowledge and skills for the further growth of taekwondo in the country. Kami sa PTA, nandito kami para patuloy na sumuporta,” giit pa ni Samson.

Tatagal ng apat na buwan, ang mga partisipante ay sasailalim sa ekstensibo at siksik na pagsasanay at curriculum kung saan ay kada dalawang linggo ang kanilang magiging promotion test hanggang makuha na nila ang kanilang black belt.

Bukod kina Fajardo at Samson, ang iba pang opisyal ng PTA na dumalo sa course opening sa Camp Crame ay sina poomsae director Igor Mella, PTA marketing head Jobet Morales, at referee chairman Ricky Santiago.
