Umarangkada na ang konstruksiyon ng mga bike lanes sa mga lansangan sa Quezon City.

Nabatid na nitong Lunes ng umaga ay pormal nang isinagawa ang groundbreaking ceremony para sa naturang active transport project sa pangunguna mismo ng Department of Transportation (DOTr), na pinamumunuan ni Secretary Jaime Bautista at ng Quezon City Government, na pinamumunuan naman ni Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Anang DOTr, ang naturang expansion ng active at public transport infrastructures ay matatagpuan sa ilang piling bahagi ng Elliptical Road at Commonwealth Avenue sa Quezon City.

Kinabibilangan ito ng konstruksiyon ng 2-kilometer bike lanes at 10 public utility vehicle (PUV) stops, gayundin ng sidewalk improvement.

Ayon kay Bautista, target ng DOTr na makumpleto ang naturang active transport project sa unang bahagi ng 2024, at inaasahang pakikinabangan ng halos tatlong milyong constituents ng Quezon City.

Sa kanyang mensahe sa naturang aktibidad, sinabi pa ni Bautista na ang naturang active transport expansion ay hindi lamang kinasasangkutan ng konstruksiyon ng bike lanes kundi maging ng pagtiyak sa kaligtasan ng mga siklista at iba pang road users.

"We want to emphasize the safety of cyclists. We want to ensure cycling is a safe mode of daily travel, no longer just for leisure," pahayag pa ni Bautista.

Dagdag pa niya, "The use of non-motorized personal vehicles has been embraced by many who vouch for the health benefits of this mode of transport."

Nagpaabot din naman ng pasasalamat ang transport sa Quezon City LGU dahil sa suporta nito sa active transport program na may layunin ring magkaloob ng environment at economic benefits para sa lahat.

"The increasing number of cyclists in Quezon City can significantly help redirect this city's growth path towards preserving the environment. With clear support from the local government and civic organizations, we are confident this project will steer Quezon City away from the obnoxious sign of progress - road traffic,” ani Bautista.
