Sumagot na ang valedictorian ng Far Eastern University (FEU) Batch 2019 na si Mariyela Mari Hugo ukol sa umano'y pag-plagiarize sa valedictory speech niya ng isang magna cum laude graduate ng isang kolehiyo sa Camarines Sur.
Sa ekslusibong panayam ng FEU Advocate, official student publication ng FEU-Manila, ipinahayag ni Hugo na ang publiko ay may papel na dapat gampanan sa pagpapanatili ng akademikong integridad bilang mga hiniram na ideya, kahit na mga inspirasyon, ay dapat banggitin o kilalanin.
"Borrowed ideas, even inspirations, should be cited or at the very least, acknowledged. I hope that this issue serves as reminder to everyone to review and uphold their standards," ani Hugo.
Nabanggit rin ni Hugo na napanghinaan siya ng loob nang malaman niya ang isyu ng umano'y plagiarism noong Hulyo 11, nang i-tag siya ng isang kapwa niya mag-aaral sa isang post sa Facebook na nagtatampok sa talumpati ni Ayen.

Aniya, "One does not simply unintentionally create a similar copy of one’s speech, especially if the resulting structure used are the same as the original. One’s mind cannot carelessly wander while their hands inadvertently transcribe what is heard."
"At a young age, I was already taught that numerical grades are not the be-all and end-all of one's academic life. FEU solidified that belief by teaching me that it is okay not always to have the perfect piece to submit and that it is better than copying and pasting another person's work," dagdag pa niya.
Matatandaan na inakusahan ng netizens si Jayvee Ayen, magna cum laude at Top 1 ng Batch 2022 ng Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), na hinango at kinopya umano niya ang valedictory speech ni Hugo.

Napansin ng mga netizen na halos kinopya umano ni Ayen ang ilan sa mga bahagi ng talumpati ni Gonzales, gayundin ang atake kung paano ito inilahad. Pinalitan lamang umano sa mga binanggit na kurso, ngunit kung ihahambing (na ginawa na nga sa TikTok) ay halos parehong-pareho umano.
Samantala, sa opisyal na pahayag na inilabas ng pamunuan ng CSPC kaugnay sa isyu na kinakasangkutan ni Ayen, humingi ito ng paumanhin sa ginawa ni Ayen, lalo na para sa pinagkuhanan nito ng inspirasyon na si Hugo.

Nakiusap naman ang pamunuan na sana ay itigil na ang bashing kay Ayen, lalo’t humingi na ito ng tawad kay Hugo.
