Itinalaga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Michael Ong bilang bagong associate justice ng Court of Appeals (CA).

Sa appointment letter na inilabas ng Pangulo at isinapubliko naman ng Supreme Court (SC) public information office nitongHuwebes, hahalili si Ong sa puwestong babakantehin ni Supreme Court associate justice Samuel Gaerlan.
Si Ong ay nagingsenior deputy executive secretary bago pa ito italaga sa nasabing posisyon, at kabilang din ito sa 36 kandidato na inirekomenda ng Judicial Bar and Council upang punan ang anim na posisyon bilang associate justice sa CA.
