SINIMULAN na ng Department of Tourism (DoT) nitong Sabado ang pagtukoy sa mga posibleng tourism circuit na maaaring buhayin sa ilalim ng “new normal.”

“The various regional offices of the department have identified several tourism circuits that can be activated in light of the new normal. These tourism circuits shall also have both new and recalibrated tourism products with corresponding health and safety protocols,” pahayag ng ahensiya.

Inilabas ang hakbang matapos aprubahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang unti-unting pagbubukas ng turismo sa bansa.

Maihahalintulad sa Ridge-to-Reef Corridor plan ng Baguio City, sa mga probinsiya ng Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, at Pangasinan, sinabi ng DoT na ang “tourism circuits” ay maaaring maging inter-region o inter-province depende sa kahandaan ng lokal na pamahalaan sa pagtanggap ng mga bagong bisita.

“The DOT will explore similar corridors, circuits, and safe reopening, involving destinations that have low or no cases of Covid-19 with full support from LGUs, tourism private sector, and host communities,” anito.

Gayunman, hindi pa idinetalye ng ahensiya ang mga tiyak na destinasyon sa plano.

Sinabi ng DoT na nananatili itong ‘consistent’ sa direksyon ng Pangulo sa pagkikipag-ugnayan nito sa mga lokal na pamahalaan, iba pang ahensiya at mga local tourism stakeholders para sa unti-unting pagbubukas ng sektor habang ipinatutupad ang mahigpit na pagsunod sa health and safety protocols.

Nitong unang bahagi ng taon, inilabas ng ahensiya ang dalawang digital applications, ang Safe Pass at Eat-In Express, upang matulungan ang mga DoT-accredited establishment at restaurant na muling magbukas ng libre sa pamamagitan ng contactless operations.

Sa pamamagitan naman ng Tourism Promotions Board, pinondohan din ng DoT ang Baguio City’s Visitor Information and Travel Assistance (V.I.S.I.T.A.), isang multi-platform digital monitoring app upang makatulong sa border control at contact tracing.

“Over tourism is the old normal. The DOT has repeatedly underscored that economic gains will be pursued along with safe, responsible, and sustainable tourism.

Establishing corresponding capacity requirements with health and safety protocols is the new normal,” pahayag ng ahensiya.

Kasabay ng pagbanggit sa domestic tourism bilang “backbone” ng industriya, idiniin ng ahensiya na umaasa itong muling makapagbubukas sa huling bahagi ng taon hanggang sa susunod na anim na buwan ng 2021.

“Once border controls are lifted by other countries, the DOT foresees regional international visitors by the second half of 2021,” pahayag nito.

Bukod sa Baguio City, nagbukas na rin ang Boracay Island para sa mga bisita mula sa Western Visayas nitong Hunyo 16.
