PATULOY na makikipagtulungan ang Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) para sa maayos na pagdadala ng tulong medical sa mga biktima ng kalamidad, inihayag ni PCSO General Manager Alexander Balutan nitong Martes.

“I really appreciate AFP chief General Carlito Galvez Jr. for paying a courtesy call to PCSO. I didn’t expect him to come to our office and say thank you to all the assistance that PCSO extended to the AFP specially during the Marawi crisis. He was then the commanding general of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) in charge of fighting the Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah and Maute terrorists,” sinabi Balutan.

Si Balutan, na retiradong heneral mula Philippine Marine Corps (PMC), ay kabilang sa Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Matikas” Class of 1983; habang si Galvez, ng Philippine Army, ay miyembro ng PMA “Sandiwa” Class ’85.

Sa kanyang bahagi, sinabi ni Galvez na ang pagtutulungan ng AFP-PCSO ay hindi lamang malaking tulong sa mga taong nangangailangan ng agarang medikal sa panahon ng kalamidad, ngunit gayundin sa mga sundalo at kanilang pamilya sa panahon ng krisis.

Inalala ni Balutan ang kaso ni baby Gabe, anak ng isang Scout Ranger officer na nakipaglaban sa mga terorista sa Marawi, na nangangailangan ng agarang operasyon upang mailigtas ang buhay.

“I can still vividly remember my long conversation with the junior officer sending all his appeals to me during lull moments in battle asking for financial assistance for his baby boy. I’m teary-eyed reading all his messages and prayed hard he will live for his kid and wife who didn’t know he was in Marawi for a very critical and dangerous mission. I said yes to all his appeals and assured him to save the life of his baby boy while praying hard also for his safety and his men doing the daring assaults to the well-entrenched positions of the terrorists,” pagbabahagi ni Balutan.

Aniya, personal niyang dinala ang mga milyong halaga ng mga gamot at bottled water sa mga evacuation center sa Marawi at Iligan City sa kasagsagan ng digmaan kontra sa mga terorista, kasama ang donasyong drone na ginamit upang makubkob ang posisyon ng mga kalaban.

“These medical services and other forms of assistance fall under PCSO’s Calamity Assistance Program which is part of the 30 percent Charity Fund allocation,” ani Balutan.

Noong Disyembre 2017, sinabi ni balutan na nagkapagbigay ang PCSO ng nasa P102 milyon para sa pagsasaayos ng mga medical equipment sa ilang piling military hospital sa Mindanao.

Dagdag pa niya, Nobyembre 2017 nang magkaloob din ang ahensiya ng P20 milyon para sa pagbili ng mga medical equipment para sa Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital sa Camp Crame.

“All these donations fall under PCSO’s Institutional Partnership Program that we’re strengthening all throughout the years,” ani Balutan.

Bukod sa mga programang nabanggit, sinabi ni Balutan na mayroon ding Endowment Fund program, Medicines Procurement program at Integrated for Health Overall Productivity and Empowerment (I-HOPE).

Kamakailan lamang, nagbigay ang PCSO ng P5 milyong halaga ng pondo sa Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) sa Quezon City.
