Sinabi ng isang obispong Katoliko na hindi dahilan ang pangangaliwa para magdiborsiyo ang mag-asawa.
“Divorce is not the solution to extramarital affair. Nor extramarital affair is an excuse for divorce,” diin ni Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos sa isang panayam.
Gayunman, ang pangangaliwa ay patataksil, ayon sa obispo. “It is infidelity, breaking one’s trust and marital vow. A grievous sin, plain and simple. And even criminal offense,” giit niya.
Sinabi ni Santos na tutol ang simbahan sa diborsiyo dahil pinalalala nito ang paghihiwalay at pagkasira ng pamilya.

“What we need is to protect the stability and sanctity of marriage. It is the children who suffer most when there is break up of marriage,” paliwanag niya.
Hindi rin pabor si Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes sa pagsasabatas sa diborsiyo na tinawag niyang pinakamalaking kasamaan sa modernong lipunan.
“Divorce is one of the greatest evils in modern society that destroys the heart and essence of the family, the fundamental unit of human society willed by God and nature,” aniya. “It is an extremely bad move to introduce divorce in our Catholic country.”
Nauna rito, hiniling ni Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas kay House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez na isama ang diborsiyo sa mga prayoridad na batas ng administrasyon.
Ipinanukala niyang isama ang House Bill 2380 (Divorce Bill) sa Family Code of the Philippines (FCP) bilang isang paraan upang maresolba ang magulong pagsasama ng mag-asawa.
Hinimok din niya si Alvarez na luwagan ang batas sa annulment bilang isa sa mga opsiyon ng mag-asawang hindi magkasundo.
“We want to help families who believe in the sanctity of marriage and at the same time, to free women and men who really are not okay in thier marriages,” katwiran ni Brosas.
Kamakailan ay inamin ni Alvarez na mayroon siyang “girlfriend” at may anak sa labas. Dahil sa pag-amin niyang ito, pinag-iisipan ng Gabriela na maghain ng ethics complaint laban sa Speaker. (Leslie Ann G. Aquino at Bert De Guzman)
