At kamakailan, kinilala siya ng People magazine bilang “The Sexiest Man Alive.”
“I realized that so little has been shown on the big screen about Polynesian culture in this depth and quality, so very little when you look at all the material that has been made over the years,” sabi niya. “So when that reality started to set in, it was pretty profound. But it was also very exciting too, that for the first time, Polynesian culture in this aspect of animated storytelling.”
Nang tanungin tungkol sa kanyang relasyon sa karagatan, ang paliwanag ni Dwayne, “We have a term called Manha, and Manha is spirit and it means power, and you can access it. It’s intangible. You know how you have goose bumps and then all of a sudden you have this feeling? That’s Manha. And often times, Manha comes through the ocean and it’s a very extremely powerful entity that can often show you the way. But you have to respect it.
“I grew up in Hawaii. I lived in New Zealand, and I visited a lot of the Pacific Islands. The relationship that we all have with the ocean is extremely powerful. There’s a part of my tattoo and it’s right here. It represents the ocean. It’s right under where we live, but the ocean is our foundation.”
Bilang espirituwal na tao, paano nga ba lumalabas ang Manha sa kanyang sarili bilang ama at paano niya niya pinalalaki ang kanyang dalawang anak na babae – sina Simone Alexander, 15-anyos; at Jasmine, 11 buwang gulang?
“It allows space. It allows space for my daughters. For my 15-year-old to be herself and for me to be comfortable with that and knowing that I have given her pretty good lessons that I have learned throughout my life. It gives me space too.
“It allows space for failure and it would be okay. So for a long time when I was younger, failure wasn’t okay. When I was trying to make it and I was in my late 20s, failure wasn’t okay. It created this energy that was tough and that could be very constricting. So what it does now is that is just creates space and that failure is okay and I created space.” (MB Entertainment)
