“Please, make the world know that lolo does not apply to me, okay?” pabirong sabi niya sa presscon ng show niya.
“It’s Papi, P-A-P-I, why? Because when my mother who is a Puerto Rican, pure, nu’ng pumunta rito ‘yung grandfather ko, hindi niya maintindihan ang lolo dahil he only could speak Spanish, he could not understand grandpa or grandfather.
“But every time we called him Papi, he would give us his attention, so that’s how I’d like to be called. So it’s Papi Gary V,” paliwanag ni Mr. Pure Energy.
Katabi lang namin si Ms. Angeli habang isinasagawa ang presscon kaya tinanong namin siya kung ano naman ang itatawag sa kanya ng apo niya.
“Ikaw talaga,” natawang sabi sa amin, “I don’t know, maybe Grand Geli, ha-ha-ha.”
Samantala, natanong din si Gary V kung ano ang pakiramdam niya na naisasantabi na lang sila sa ASAP dahil mas nabibigyan ng pansin ang younger artists.
“It’s not like we’re being sidelined, because I think when you say we’re being sidelined, they would have just done it without telling us anything. They presented us, ‘Okay, this is what’s happening in the industry today, you and Zsa Zsa (Padilla) and Martin (Nievera) don’t often appear anymore because of schedules and other priorities. We need people that people can see on a weekly basis.
“I said okay, that’s good. Because even before the change happened, I already told ASAP, I wanted to appear twice a month na lang. Pero every time I appear, let’s make it bongga. Let’s make it something good.
“So in the recent past, I did something with Sarah (Geronimo), with Darren (Espanto), I launched ASAP Pinoy (segment) which I think is great and in the weeks to come, I’ll be there again.
“But none of us feel that way. Maybe in the beginning, but ASAP was good and sensitive enough to really speak to each and everyone of us and tell us, ‘This is the plan, do you wanna be a part of it?’ ‘Yeah!’
“So, I’m happy that when we were in London pa for ASAP London, there were a few artists already that were told about ASAP New York which is on September 3.
“And I feel happy that I was one of the first artists told by Gabby Lopez himself. So, I felt good na they still look at me as somebody who can play a role in the show and I’ll always be there,” kuwento ng isa sa pioneers ng ASAP.
